Why I’m Doing It….

And why it’s better for you!

So, some of you may have seen that I am publishing a book, one I am hoping will be very popular. But firstly, I am hoping it raises enough money to get to that stage! You see, publishing is a bit of a minefield. You can find a publisher who will do it all for you, but you have very little control over type, quality, price and even content, as they are doing all the work. There’s also self-publishing with companies like ZNO, Blurb and a whole host of new ones that have popped up. And I have used one of these before but it was for a one-off gift, albeit a very special one. The problem was there weren’t many pages for what was a high cost book. The quality was excellent but to do it on a grander scale, I had to come up with something else.

I’d just recently bought 2 books from other Urban Explorers and while I had paid a premium for one, I got a good deal on the other as the book had been out a while. I reached out to the photographer as I was more than curious to how she had produced a book so bloody gorgeous…

Rebecca put me on to a publisher she had used in Hong Kong and who had produced some stunning art books over the years. She also said she had used a Kickstarter to fund the book, reaching her target well within the month-long campaign. Very grateful for the advice that was given!

So here’s how it works…..

A campaign has to reach the set target to be funded. If it’s even 1 pound behind target when the campaign ends it fails. Having said that, if it doesn’t reach target, nobody pays anything so nobody loses out. You only pay if and when the campaign is successful. It can be a little disappointing if it doesn’t get there but there’s no monetary loss involved, just the time and effort put in to make it succeed.

Hopefully, with all your help, the book will be with us just after Christmas, just in time for the next exhibition!
